More Statistics Next Week
There are so many stats I could show you, but maybe you’re not a stat-aholic like me. If you don’t use something like Google Analytics then I would very much recommend it, by keeping an eye on trends you can make sure you give your audience what they want from your blog/website.
Must admit I don’t track the Analytics that much! :)
They can be quite addictive Ian, although I have tried to keep away from them this weekend.
I spend more time than is healthy on Google Analytics. I know I should schedule an hour or so once or twice a week to check what traffic I’ve had, where it came from, what search terms etc., but I can’t help just dipping in for a look 3 or 4 times a day. There are worse addictions I suppose. I got a large amount of search traffic for a post I wrote about referrer spam a week or two ago, and proceeded to check my traffic every hour for a few days, comparing the hourly traffic with that of the previous day. Sad, I know, but if you want to do this you can do so by choosing to display 1 day, then clicking ‘compare to past’ and selecting the previous day. There’s a little ‘graph by’ box (just above the main traffic graph), which you can set to display ‘Hourly’ results.
Don’t rely too much on your Analytics though. They may well understate your true traffic, especially if your analytics code is placed in your website footer. This is because some visitors may click away from your site before the page has fully loaded (i.e. before your analytics code has been executed).

Thanks for the tips Martin, will have to see where I put my code!! I also have a very unhealthy obsession with it, I tend to have the real-time screen open all day and I flick back and forth to see how many people are visiting… had a surge on Wednesday and was so excited to have 14 people visiting all at once! :)
