Interview with Karen Einsel the author of The Good Dr. Grant.
Why are you taking part in the author blog challenge and what do you hope to achieve?
I love blogs! I love reading blogs, sharing them, and helping promote other crafters (writers, bloggers, artists, book designers, and hand crafters, etc.) And what do I hope to achieve? Hmm…Good question. I think just to let people know that I’m here, promote my books and to increase blog followers for my blogs.
How long have you been writing for?
Only a year!
What would you say is the most difficult part of writing a book?
Showing and not telling and editing.
What genre do you generally write?
Do you have a favourite author and why?
Stephen King will always be my favorite, but I have been reading novels by a new author, Richard C Hale. I like his style of weaving stories and pulling you in.
What is your book called and how did you choose this title?
“The Good Dr. Grant” – As for choosing this title it just popped into my head.
Amy drops out of college and moves back home after the untimely death of her parents in a head on collision with a drunk driver. Inheriting everything, including her father’s Veterinarian practice, Amy gives the resumes to her Aunt Helen and tells her to hire whomever she wants. Waiting 6 months before meeting Dr. Grant Graysen Amy finds him very attractive yet quiet and subdued. Wanting to find his passionate side, Amy includes Dr. Grant into her circle of close friends, only to find that it complicates her relationship with her best friend Tom, whom she’s had a crush on for years and when her ex husband shows up and wants to take her back to England, Amy knows she will have to make a choice, but who should she choose?
Has your book been published and how did you go about this?
Yes, I published it on my son’s birthday. I used createspace for the print on demand copy and KDP Select for the e-book version.
Approximately how long did it take you to finish your book?
I went through this one quite fast so I’d say just a couple of months.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Write from your heart and proofread, proofread, proofread, before you hit publish!
Do you use social media to promote your book, if yes then which social networks do you like the most?
I use Twitter and Facebook for the most part, but have been trying to get more involved with Goodreads and World Literary Cafe.
Have you enrolled your book onto Amazon’s KDP Select and how have you found it?
Yes it is enrolled into the KDP Select program. It’s done well with the promotions and bringing in sales, but as for Amazon Prime Members borrowing it, I’m disappointed. I won’t enroll my next book, because I want to have the option to see how well it will sell elsewhere.
If you had to do it all over again what would you do differently?
I would spend more time promoting it before publishing it.
What books do you like to read in your spare time?
I have been reading a lot of books on How to write and different genres from new authors. I don’t like to read when I am writing though. I only read when I have finished the first draft of my books and when I’m in the editing stage.
What do you feel is the most important stage of writing a book?
Editing and revising.
How did you go about designing the cover for your book?
I started with a createspace template and then uploaded a picture of my son’s dog Sandi for my cover, since “The Good Dr. Grant” is a vetrinarian.
Are you writing or considering writing a follow-up to your book?
No, I wrote it as a stand alone novel. I am currently working on a series titled “Chris’ Journey Turning Different Corners” which I hope to have the first book out on the 5th of June.
Do you have a day job (if so, what do you do?) or do you write full-time?
Not anymore. I used to own a gift shop, but closed it down last year due to the economy. I had a story in my head and being bored I decided to put it down on paper. So I wrote the first draft of the final book in “Chris’ Journey Turning Different Corners” (which was originally going to be a stand alone novel) but I signed up for NaNoWrimo and not knowing what to write, I decided to write the first book in the series.
Where is your book available to buy?
